A few more helpful tips...

  • Try to spend some time outside in the area you choose for your garden. See how the shadows and sunlight interact with the area throughout the day.
  • Visit your prospective area in the early morning, mid-day, and in the evening before you build. Observe what birds, rodents, and insects pass through the area.
  • Look closely at the ground where your garden will be. Are there any holes or mounds of dirt? If so, you may have some underground rodents already living in the area. We'll discuss more about how to plan to protect your garden in the later chapters. For now, the more time you can spend observing the area, the better plan you can make going forward.
